What type of headache do you have? – Part 2

Migraines are the most common type of headache, so what is the second most common?

2. Tension-type headache. These headaches feel very different then a migraine. This type of headache pain is usually bilateral, which means it is on both sides of your head instead of just 1 side. The pain is  in a band-like pattern over the forehead and temples in the area covered if you were to wear a sports headband. The pain feels like pressing or tightening pressure and it can last from several minutes up to days. People who suffer from tension type headaches often have frequent episodes. There is no nausea, vomiting , light sensitivity or sound sensitivity associated with tension type headaches.

Chiropractors can successfully  treat tension type headaches by releasing tight muscles and by mobilizing the joints in the neck. Evidence shows that the treatment of this type of headache can take up to 6 months! Why so long? Because often people are aggravating the headache everyday with poor posture or due to stress. Chiropractors can also give you tips on how to maintain a good posture while working AND give you exercises to help control the pain.
