What type of headache do you have? – Part 1

80% of the Canadian population report suffering from a headache. Headaches are a symptom of many different conditions of the head & neck. Chiropractors can help diagnose what is causing your headache AND can effectively treat 90% of headache causes.

Uncommonly headaches are a symptom of a serious pathology, if you experience the onset of a new headache after the age of 40 or experience the worst headache of life you should seek immediate medical attention. Other serious symptoms include double vision, numbness, trouble swallowing and fever. 99%  of headaches are not caused by a serious pathology….

So what are the 3 most common types of headaches?
  1. Migraines – Many people suffer from migraines. Migraine pain usually feels like a throbbing or pulsating pain. The pain is commonly only on one side of the head, is moderate to sever in intensity and lasts anywhere from 4-72 hours. During the headache one or more of the following associated symptoms may be present;  light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, nausea or vomiting. So what is the cause? No one is certain and that’s why migraines are known as Primary headaches because they are not caused by another disorder. The International headache society RECOMMENDs Chiropractic care for the treatment of migraines. Chiropractic has been shown to be effective. How long will it take for your migraines to improve?  You will be looking at a treatment plan of twice a week for eight weeks.
